- Never be afraid: Never be afraid to take your hits! You have hit your hard 16s twice in a row and lost against the dealer’s up card of 10? So what? Next time you get a hard 16 against a 10, hit it again. Basic strategy works in the long run. Don’t ever abandon it. Players should realise it’s important to take make their hits, it often happens that players who are afraid of making their hits tend to lose in the long run.
- Think positively: Although it doesn’t make any mathematical sense at all, in any area of life, if you think negatively, bad things tend to happen. The same applies for blackjack. Thinking positively isn’t going to make you an instant winner, but if you keep an emotional balance you won’t lose your basic blackjack playing skills.
- When you’re losing don’t continue playing: This is just common sense, but many players when confronted with a losing table continue to play there, hoping that their luck will change. Don’t do it! Some dealers are simply hot and they will continue to be so. Don’t let them take your money. Get up and move to another table. If you continue to lose at another table it’s best to go home. There will be another day to play blackjack….
- Don’t make side bets: Some tables you play at will have available side bets. One such side bet is to wager on whether your first two cards totals 10 or more. Side bets are always created and used by internet casinos because they are sucker bets which will make the casino money. Don’t be suckered into doing this!
- Play safe: If you have an Ace, hit until you 17 in your hand. If you have 10 or 11 points in your hand double. Don’t split pairs if you have 4’s or 5’s. Stand if you have 16 or better. Stand only at 18 or better in the event the dealer is showing a Ten or a Face card.
