The SMART (Self-Management and Recovery Training) group has decided to expand its operations to Devon, it will offer counselling to people in the city who suffer from gambling, drug and alcohol addiction. The local NHS’ Drug and Alcohol Action Team has funded the group in Devon with £4000.
Problem Gambling SMART
An alternative to the famous Gamblers’ anonymous is SMART. SMART opted to use a more scientific approach instead of the usual 12-steps system which is based on faith and peer support. SMART makes use of four steps. Basically it allows patrons to identify the problem area, if they do have an addiction it equips them with the necessary skill and motivation to treat it.
Richard Phillips, Director of SMART said, ”Clearly AA and NA work very well for some people,”. “For other people, SMART Recovery might work better”.
Devon’s Drug and Alcohol Action Team offers an extensive range of addiction treatment programs and services to the city’s citizens. Every person is unique and different; it goes without saying that if one treatment works for one person it won’t necessarily work for someone else. Hence the reason it is imperative to offer various types of counselling addiction, especially when it comes to the funding of an effective treatment method affording residents of Devon numerous options.
