The
Craps Info Site - Roll Them Bones!
Welcome
to Cassaon-Casino Craps, a fully featured craps guide with every
thing you need to learn and enjoy the game, online or off. The focus
of the site is one simple thing, craps. To become a true craps player
however, requires the development of some knowledge in a variety
of areas, including strategy and etiquette. This site isn't just
about learning how to play, it's about learning how to play smart.
Learning craps can sometimes be an intimidating experience. The
trouble is a combination of a tricky table layout, and the large
number of bets available. We try to solve these troubles by presenting
you with a clear explanation of the table and bets, along with a
free game to practice on.
Learning
is not about memorizing a million things, in fact, there are just
a couple of bets that maintain a low house edge, and so just a couple
of bets you really need to learn. More often than not, the hard
part is learning to stick to those bets. Fortunately the actual
processes, much like the other rules, are uncomplicated once explained.
Taking to the Internet to pick up on the game is a smart move. From
here you can run through any scenario, with any betting amount you
wish, all at no risk on free game software. Combine that bonus with
a web site that explains the rules, etiquette and game-play, and
you'll be ready to hit the floor before you can yell Yo-11!
If
you're looking for a place to throw some virtual dice around, we
have a great free game available, which works within your browser.
If you prefer to log off to play, we also have a variety of games
gathered together in our download area.
Our
aim is to help both types of craps fans: those just starting out
looking for some honest, informed advice, and those who already
have some experience and want a step up in knowledge. Our intention
is to be comprehensive and exhaustive in our examination of the
basics, including a description of each and every bet available
on the table.
For
now, sit back and relax. It won't be long before you're enjoying
a great game of craps, and getting the hang of it.
Craps (previously known as crabs) is a casino dice game. Craps is
a simplification of the Old English game hazard. Players wager money
against the casino on the outcome of one roll, or of a series of
rolls of two dice.
Craps
can also be played in less formal settings and is said to be popular
among soldiers. In such situations side bets are more frequent,
with one or several participants covering or "fading"
bets against the dice.
Players
take turns rolling two dice, and they all bet on the same roll,
regardless of who is rolling. The player rolling the dice is called
the "shooter". The first roll of a new round is called
the "come-out roll." All bets are based on the total of
both dice together, or on the specific combination of the roll.
Craps
features a plethora of bets, but the most fundamental is the "pass
line" wager, which nearly all players make. On a come-out roll,
the pass line bettors win when either a 7 or 11 is rolled. A 2,
3, or 12 loses, and is called "craps". When any other
number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) is rolled, it is called the point.
Once a point has been set, the pass-line bettor wins if the point
is rolled again, and loses if a 7 is rolled first ("seven-out").
A shooter will continue to roll (even if he/she rolls craps) until
a seven-out, at which point the dice pass to the next shooter for
a new come-out roll.
The
opposite of a pass line bet is the "don't pass" bet, which
wins on a come-out roll of 2 or 3, loses on 7 or 11, ties on 12,
and goes to the point round when any other number is rolled. (In
some casinos the 2 is barred and in such cases the 2 will tie but
the 12 will win). In the point round the don't pass bet wins if
a 7 is rolled and loses if the point is rolled. People who bet on
the don't pass are called wrong bettors, while those who bet on
the pass are called right bettors, only because most craps players
make the pass line bet instead of the don't pass bet.
A
casino craps table is run by four casino employees: a boxman who
guards the chips, supervises the dealers and handles coloring out
players; two base dealers who stand to either side of the boxman
and collect and pay bets; and a stickman who stands directly across
the table from the boxman and announces the results of each roll
and then collects the dice with an elongated wooden stick. He is
also in charge of managing the bets made on the center of the table
(hardways, yo, horn, etc).
A
new shooter, who must bet the table minimum on either the pass line
or the don't pass line to play, is presented five dice by the stickman
and picks two.
The
dealers will usually insist that the shooter roll with one hand
and that the dice bounce off the wall surrounding the table. These
requirements are meant to prevent cheating attempts by players switching
the dice or making a "controlled shot." If a die leaves
the table, the shooter will usually be asked to select another die
from the remaining three but can request using the same die if it
passes the boxman's inspection. This requirement is used in an effort
to reduce cheating the game by players substituting loaded dice
for the regulation dice.
-
Make a betting selection(s) or establish a pattern of play to
your liking and stick to it.
-
If you want to play longer and enjoy the action, stick to the
'pass/don't pass' and 'come/don't come' bets.
-
If you aim to 'hit and run' and winning is a priority, give
preference to high-odds bets.
-
Don't plan to win every roll of the dice.
-
Raise as you win, lower as you lose.
-
Never quit after a win. If
the table is choppy a good way to hedge your bet is to establish
a dont pass bet then place bet the 6 & 8.
-
On the come out roll, place a pass bet and an equivalent field
bet, that way if the shooter craps out, you still win in the
field, if the shooter wins with 7 or 11 you still break even.
-
Try to do the same as the player with the most chips. If he's
a hi roller then use a smaller amount for yourself.
-
Dont press your place bets until you take your winnings down
at least once first.
-
Never walk up to a table and throw your money in. Take a moment
to review the table, people and the game in progress. I neglected
this once and was yelled at by the dealers and players alike.
-
Give people elbow room, if you aren't betting, get off the rail.
