Craps Bets

What follows is a concise explanation of the various types of craps bets as well as a game summary complete with payout tables which indicates the associated house edge internet casinos normally have.

  • Pass Line: This is an even-cash bet made by placing your chips in the area marked “pass line”. This wager wins if the first roll of the dice-generally called the “come-out roll”-is a 7 or 11 and loses if a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 is rolled, that number becomes the “point”. Once there is a point number, to win the player must repeat the number before a 7 is rolled. If 7 shows before the point is repeated, the pass-line bet loses.
  • Don’t-pass bet: The opposite of the pass-line bet, a “don’t-pass bet” wins if the shooter rolls a 2 or 3 on the come-out roll and loses if a 7 or 11 is rolled. If a 12 is rolled, it’s a tie and the play continues. Once the point has been established, a don’t-pass bet wins if the shooter rolls a 7 before the point is repeated.
  • Come bet: The “come bet” is a delayed pass-line bet made after the point has been established on the come-out roll. The rules are identical to the pass-line bet: the come bet wins if a 7 or 11 is rolled and loses on a 2, 3, or 12. Any other number becomes your “come-point” and must be repeated before a 7 is rolled. In the vent the shooter rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 after a come bet has been placed, the dealer will move the come bet to the matching area on the table for that number.
  • Don’t-come bet: This bet is the opposite of the come bet, the “don’t-come” bet may be wagered once the point has been established on the come-out roll. An initial roll of 7 or 11 loses, 2 or 3 wins and 12 is a push. If a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is rolled after a don’t come bet has been made the dealer move the wager from the don’t-come area to the corresponding number.
  • Taking odds: With no house edge attached to it, the odds bet is one of the best bets in internet casino gambling. The odds bet is a supplemental wager made after a point has been established and is used to support the pass line bet. This bet is made in multiples of (usually twice) the pass-line bet. If the pass line bet wins, the original pass bet will be paid at 1 to 1, while the supplemental wager will be paid at odds of 2 to 1 if the point was 4 or 10, 3 to 2 if the point was 5 or 9 and 6 to 5 if the point was a 6 or 8.
  • Laying odds: This is the odd of taking odds, when “laying odds” the player is betting that the 7 will show before the point number is rolled. This bet is made in multiples of the don’t-pass wager and is paid off at odds of 1 to 2 if the point is 4 or 10, 2 to 3 if the point is 5 or 9 and 5 to 6 if the point is 6 or 8.
  • Place bet: Done (or active) after the point has been established, “place bets” can be made on the 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. The bet wins if the number is rolled prior to the appearance of a 7 and loses once a 7 is rolled. Place bets pays 9 to 5 and 10, 7 to 5 and 7 to 6 on 6 and 8.
  • Buy bet: “Buy bets” are similar to place bets, except where the payout is concerned. A buy bet is so named because the player must “buy” the number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10) by paying a 5 percent commission by buying the number, the player receives fair odds if it wins-2 to 1 on the 4 and 10, 3 to 2 on the 5 and 9 and 6 to 5 on the 6 and 8.
  • Lay bet: The “lay bet” is the exact opposite of the buy bet, allowing players to wager against the 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 showing prior to a 7. As will buy bets, the player has to pay a 5 percent commission on the possible winnings with the odds paying out at 1 to 2 for the 4 or 10, 2 to 3 for the 5 and 9 and 5 to 6 for the 6 and 8.
  • Hard-way bet: With “hard-way bets” the player is betting that the shooter will throw dubble 2s; double 3s, double 4s or double 5s, with an outcome of 4, 6, 8 or 10 before a 7 is rolled.
  • Big-six: The same as the place bet, with the big six a player is wagering that a 6 will show before a 7 is rolled.
  • Big-eight: A bet that an 8 will be rolled before a 7.
  • Proposition bet:“Proposition bets” are all one- roll bets decided on the first throw following the wager. It includes all of the following:
    • Any craps: A bet that 2, 3 or 12 will show on the next roll
    • Any 7: Betting that a 7 will be thrown on the next roll
    • Crap2: Betting that a value of 2 will be thrown on the next roll
    • Crap 3: Betting that a value of 3 will be thrown on the next roll
    • Crap 12: A one- roll bet that a 12 will be thrown next
    • 11: Betting that an 11 will be thrown on the next roll
    • Field Bet: A one-roll bet on the 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12
  • Hop bet: With the “hop-bet” you are wagering on the exact outcome of the next roll. For example a bet could be placed that the next roll is a 3 and 5. Although there is no designated area on the table for the hop bet, the dealers will take care of the bet if asked to.
  • Horn Bet: The “horn bet” is four bet is four bets in one, made on the 2, 3, 11 and 12. It must be made in increments of $4, with $1 placed on each of the numbers. The player must also be in increments of $5 with a double portion on any one number. A “horn 12 high” bet, for instance would put $2 on the 12 and $1 each on the 2, 3 and 11.
  • World bet: Similar to the horn bet except the player bets in increments of $5, with $1 each on the 2, 3, 7, 11 and 12.
