Gonzo’s Quest is a 5 reel, 3-row, 20 payline non-progressive video slots powered by Net Entertainment software. It boasts a myriad of free spins, wilds, scatters, multipliers and a total jackpot payout of $62,500. Without a doubt one of the most popular slot machines ever released (2010) and the jewel in NetEnt’s crown. Gonzo’s quest is packed with a host of features ranging from wilds, scatters and a bonus game also known as the ‘Free Falls’ (free spins). The game plays like a charm on most mobile devices and tablets.

The slots is inspired by Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Pizarro’s search for the mythical city of El Dorado (The Golden One). At the time many conquistadors believed that El Dorado was a city of gold located somewhere in the jungles of South America. Gonzo’s Quest hit the online gambling scene in 2010, coincidentally it is also Net Entertainment’s first slots to achieve platinum status.

The reels or shall I say blocks in Gonzo’s Quest is flushed with ornate carvings depicting various Aztec idols such as the Fire, Alligator, Fish, Moon, Bird, Health and Snake idols. Your mission is to help Gonzo find the lost city of gold also known as El Dorado. As you traipse through the jungle be on the lookout for all kinds of hidden treasures. If you manage to find the city you’re in for a real treat.

The main attraction of Gonzo’s Quest is its captivating wilds, scatters and free spins. It also includes Avalanche reels (blocks of rock) that explodes when they hit winning combinations. The interesting aspect about this new innovative streak is that the reels don’t spin but fall into place. Every time a winning line is hit the Avalanche mode is triggered which can multiply a win by up to 5 times. I played the game in fun mode and managed a win of 1,870 coins. Gonzo did a little jig across the screen and caught all the coins I’ve won with his helmet. To say the least the bloke’s got some serious moves.

Gonzo's Quest game Screen

Wild Symbol

The question mark is the wild symbol, it creates a winning combination by replacing the other symbols. When three or more bonus icons appear any place across the reels the free falls feature is triggered. During the bonus round all control buttons including pay line selectors are disabled. The wild symbol substitutes all the other symbols and only appears on reels 2, 3, and 4.

Free Fall

The free fall symbols appear only appear on reels 1, 2 and 3. The maximum multiplier that can be attained in a free fall is 15. The Avalanche mode is triggered by a winning bet line during the free fall.

Free Spins (Bonus Round)

For every win accrued during the free falls (free spins) feature a multiplier of 3x is rewarded. It also increases Avalanche wins by 6x, 9x and even 15x. If you manage to land three fall symbols you’ll receive additional free spins. I might add it takes a while before the ”Free Falls” screen is activated. A message just below the reels notifies you how many free spins you have left.

Advanced Auto Play

What I like about the Auto Play feature is that you can set the amount of times you’d like the blocks to fall. To activate this feature simply click on Auto in the game panel and then on Advanced settings. You can stop the Auto Play feature any time you like. In case you become disconnected your Auto Play settings will return to default once you’re online again.

Game Setting

You can adjust the game settings as you like. In the game panel you’ll see the spanner icon. When you click on it, it enables you to adjust the audio, to turn the movie clip on or off and to adjust the animations and quality of the graphics. Unfortunately the game history is only available if you play for real money.

In summary. Gonzo’s Quest has been a hit with players ever since its release. It’s the first 3D slots to replace the spins with falls. Hopefully other NetEnt slot games will follow suit. Presently Gonzo’s Quest offers a RTP (Return to the Player) of 96%. The slots is not as volatile as most NetEnt slots and suitable to low rollers. I played it with a bankroll of $30 and manage a win of $40. I started off with Euro 0.40 per spin and worked my up to Euro 1 per spin. If you’re interested in playing Gonzo’s Quest I recommend CasinoLuck and Leo Vegas. Their minimum withdrawal is only 10 Euro.
