Interview with Ben Clemes of Guts Casino
I was working for MGM in Las Vegas in 2006 when I met some guys from Party Poker that were in Vegas for the World Series of Poker. They were expanding the VIP side of PartyGaming and were looking for Executive Hosts for the US. So after a few meetings and a lot of emails I was on a plane to Gibraltar to start my life in online gaming. I guess the rest is history.
The philosophy of the owners of guts is what makes Guts unique. We have seen so many times in the past where players complain about slow withdrawals, predatory terms and conditions, poor support and a lack of games to choose from. We don’t believe in making the player wait for withdrawals and from Guts side we aim to process withdrawals out of our system in less than 2 hours.
So far we have kept within this beach mark and we work every day on increasing our withdrawal speeds to achieve our end goal of having instant withdrawals. Our support staff are all gaming veterans so when you have a question we have the answers, there is no waiting to get an answer. Guts has no silly terms and conditions, any bonus terms are easy to find and clear to the player, we want to be as transparent as possible.
Currently Guts offers games from 5 different providers, Netent, Microgaming, Betsoft, IGT and OMI. We did launch with Sheriff but due to the recent news we have decided to remove the content until the Alderney Gaming Authority has conducted their investigations and given the green light.
I think the biggest challenge has been the listing of all the content. We have over 800 games that we can put live which is of course quite overwhelming so we worked hard to create a search function that not only searches but displays the game icon from the search.
I think with so many games we have every different type of animation and graphic possible from the latest in Flash 11 animation from Netent with their new slot EggOMatic to Micrgogaming classics like Mermaid Millions and Break the Bank. Add this to the 3D content from Betsoft and the classic titles from IGT and I think we have something for everyone.
All of the game suppliers that we have are licensed, regulated and checked by leading gaming authorities. We don't list content unless it has been fully certified.
We offer Guts players a welcome package which works a little differently to your standard welcome bonus. We basically offer a bonus on the first 3 deposits and 50 free spins after the first and the third deposits. The wagering on bonuses is 35 times the bonus amount and we don't have any wagering on winnings from Free Spins.
We just had a player from Finland win 1022 x his bet on Gonzo’s Quest. Nice win on one of the most popular Netent slots of all time.
Mobile betting is the future of gaming in my opinion and probably the opinion of most igaming operators. The hardest thing is to keep up with the technology, you spend all this time designing a mobile lobby for the iPad and then the mini comes out.
We have almost every deposit and withdrawal method including Visa, Mastercard, Skrill and Neteller. However we also have local payment methods for most countries like iDeal for Holland, Euteller for Finland. In general our per transaction withdrawal limit is €2,000 but withdrawals via Bank Wire have no limit.
Yes, Guts.com believes that the player should be in control of their gaming and have implemented a “Self Limit” feature which can be accessed once the player has logged in. From the “Self Limit” section the player can set limits on the amount they can deposit over a certain period, even a time limit which will log the player out once the set time has been reached.
It is hard to come up with a funny moment per say. Over the years I have met a lot of great people, and had a lot of laughs, especially at the industry conventions. I have had strange moments like the Calvin Ayre party in Dublin. But I think since joining the gaming industry my best moment is the day that I met my future wife, so I guess I have gaming to thank for that as otherwise we would have never met.
