DoJ changes it stance on Internet Gambling
BREAKING NEWS: The US Department of Justice now Favors Internet Gambling.

The internet gambling industry got a shot in the arm this week when the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) decided to change it stance toward it. The DoJ stipulated that the federal Wire Act of 1961 is not applicable to every internet gambling activity, but to sports betting only.

John Pappas executive director of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) of America praised the DoJ’s decision, he said: “This is a much needed clarification of an antiquated and often confusing law. The last couple of years many legal scholars as well as the courts debated if the Wire Act applies to non-sporting activity. The latest announcement by the DoJ just confirms that Internet poker is not against the law after all.”

DoJ Okays Regulation But At State Level

This is a 180 degree turn of events, since the Wire Act played a pivotal role in the DoJ’s outlook in terms of what is legal when it comes to foreign based internet casinos that offers internet poker to players from the United States. Politicians are fully aware of the fact that foreign based internet gambling operators are making billions of dollars every year from U.S based players which is not beneficial to the U.S government at all.

To be honest the future of internet gambling in the United States looks much rosier now and most internet gambling sites and proponents of internet gambling welcomed this move. However, many legal experts feel that the DoJ’s change of heart effectively paves the way toward the legalization of internet gambling in the United States. The U.S needs the tax generated from internet gambling to fill its dwindling coffers and to create much needed jobs for its cash-strapped citizens. Hopefully 2012 will see the legalization of online gambling in the United States.
