In this section we cover the rules of roulette and briefly outline the various formats of roulette and its respective house edges.

  1. European roulette: uses a single-zero wheel and offers a reduced house edge of 2.70 percent on all bets.
  2. French roulette: Uses a single-zero wheel and offers the traditional European surrender rule where a player’s even-money bet (black, red, even odd, 1-18, 19-36) becomes “imprisoned” if the ball manages to land in zero. Assuming the player “wins” on the next spin, the imprisoned bet is returned without any profit. In some instances the rules govern the result of the next spin also being zero-the house’s edge on such bets can be as low as 1.35 percent, arguably the best roulette game to play at internet casinos.
  3. Roulette Royale: This is as close as roulette lover will get to a progressive jackpot. Microgaming’s Roulette Royale is a single zero game that offers a $1 plus side bet. The side bet wins if the same number is hit at least twice in a row. Payouts from the side wager are as follow: If the number appears twice, the player is paid $15. If the number appears three consecutive times, $200. If the same number hits four times in a row, $3000. And if the same number manages to hit five consecutive times, the progressive jackpot is won. Vigorish with a $ side wager: roughly 40 percent depending on the size of the pot value.

Roulette offers the greatest variety for players to wager at. If you’ve never tried it, the game is straightforward to learn and we’ll show you strategies that will enable you to become a winner. Remember it’s easier to win when you know what you’re doing.

Even though there are 11 different kinds of bets, roulette is a simple game to play. The only skill necessary is deciding how much and on which number(s) to bet. If you want to win at roulette you must rely on both luck and strategy.

Roulette is played on a wheel containing 38 compartments numbered from 1 to 36, 0 and 00. The same numbers are printed on the table lay-out where wagers are placed. The number fields are red and black, except 0 and 00 which are green. The numbers themselves alternate between high/low and odd/even, with the 0 directly opposite the 00. The wheel spins counter-clockwise while a little white ball rolls in the opposite direction. The ball drops into one of the slots and indicating the winning number.

Your bet Pay-off depends on the kind of bet you place and there are many choices that could be made. It’s possible to bet on odd or even numbers, red or black (or the green “zero” slot), groups of numbers as well as columns and rows. Below is a short description of the kinds of bets you can place, indicating their Pay-offs:

  • Single: betting on only one number. Pay-off 35 to 1.
  • Split: betting on any two numbers by placing your bet on the line between them. Pay-off 17 to 1.
  • Trio: betting on three numbers at their intersecting point (possible with either 0, 1, and 2 or 0, 2 and 3). Pay-off 11 to 1.
  • Corner: betting on four numbers by placing your bet at their intersecting point. Pay-off 8 to 1.
  • Four numbers: betting on the numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3 by placing your bet at the intersection of 0 and 3. Pay-off 9 to 1.
  • Street: betting on a row of three numbers by placing your bet at the end of the row. Pay-off 11 to 1.
  • Line: betting on two “streets” of numbers by placing your bet at the end of both rows, on the line between the rows. Pay-off 5 to 1.
  • Dozen: betting on the “First 12,” “Second 12,” or “Third 12” boxes, as marked, covering 12 numbers each. Pay-off 2 to 1.
  • Column: betting on a column of numbers by placing your bet in any of the three “2 to 1” boxes on the ends of the table. Like betting on dozens, columns cover 12 numbers. Pay-off 2 to 1.
  • High or low: betting on the either the box marked “1 to 18” (low) or “19 to 36” (high). Pay-off 1 to 1.
  • Red or black: betting exclusively on which colour will come up. Zero does not count for either! Pay-off 1 to 1.
  • Odd or even: betting exclusively on whether the number will be odd or even. Zero does not count for either! Pay-off 1 to 1.

Two Simple Roulette Systems:

The Black/ Red System

This is a simple game of colours, black and red. Because 1/2 of the numbers are red and 1/2 black (minus of course the casino advantage of 0 of 00) a bet on a red or black number coming up has a 50-50 chance of winning. If you were able to accurately pick the correct colour every-other spin, you would break even, minus 2 in every 38 spins for (0, 00). With this in mind, try the following:

  • Bet on a colour. If you win, take your cash and leave your original bet for the next spin. Start at $1 and if things work bet more, such as $3 to $5, if you can afford it. Double your bet after a loss. If the next bet also loses, take the loss and start over again. As long as you win, collect your winnings and leave your original bet.
  • Switching colours will not change your odds of winning. Each colour has the same chance of coming up on every spin. Some players had sessions when they never lost more than three straight times. Sometimes the wrong colour can come up 12 times in a row. You can play the same system using Odd/Even or High/Low.

The “Five Numbers” System

  • This strategy calls for straight-up inside bets where you get paid 35 to 1 if you win. You will place your bets on five individual numbers. Don’t forget 0 and 00 are part of the inside numbers you can wager on.
  • Many players like to play their birthday, anniversaries or other favourite dates. Pick any five numbers; they all have the exact same chance of winning. Find a game where the minimum bet is no more than $5 and buy forty $1 chips ($40). If you limit yourself to relatively small stakes you can’t get badly hurt. With this system you hope to get lucky two consecutive times. The winnings are nothing to sneeze at!
  • Start by placing one chip on each of your five chosen numbers. Repeat this same wager until you win, you have enough chips for eight tries. When the ball comes to rest on one of your numbers, you win 35 chips. Now it gets exciting!
  • Divide the 35 chips over your five number fields, seven on each. If you hit again the Pay-off will be 7 x 35 = $245.00!
  • At this point you could collect your winnings and quit, the cash will cover many past or future losing sessions or you could risk 100 of the chips you’ve won by placing 20 on each of those same five numbers. If Lady Luck hasn’t deserted you, you’ll collect $700.00!

No matter what the outcome, this was your last spin. Smart gamblers know when to quit! Good Luck.
