The state of Delaware legalizes online gambling

Delaware, also known as the online gambling-friendly state is one of the few US states to have legalized it. The purpose of this article is to give you a brief overview of the gambling laws in this state. Please understand that I’m by no means an expert neither do I proclaim to be. Online gambling is policed by the states’ lottery commission which allows its residents to play various casino games such as video poker and slots. The reason why Delaware regulated it is two fold. First, online gambling is seen as a vehicle to create additional jobs. Second, the tax generated from it will be used to develop local infrastructure.

To gamble online, residents must be at least 18 years. This applies to casinos, dog tracks, horse racing and lottery. Residents who want to play poker, live casinos, video lottery or sports betting must be 21 or older.

Is Online Gambling Legal in Delaware?

Delaware legalized online gambling in 2012. Residents can now play state regulated games with out being prosecuted. Before an online casino can operate here they must first apply for a license. Citizens cannot wager at an online casino licensed in another state. But they are allowed to register accounts with offshore gaming sites whose software is audited by TST and iTech Labs (independent third party) for safety and transparency.

Online Sports Betting in Delaware

Residents are allowed to wager at offshore sports betting sites but not at sports betting sites registered within its borders.

Online Poker in Delaware

Residents from Delaware are allowed to play poker online. It’s just a matter of time before the state offers its own online poker sites. Residents will be able to play against fellow players online. This applies only to residents from Delaware and not to citizens who residing in other states.

Will the state of Delaware Prosecute me for Gambling Online?

No you won’t be sent to jail for online gambling in Delaware since it’s legal. Although the state has legalized online gambling, state operated websites are not available yet. When it comes to offshore gaming sites, keep in mind that these sites are not regulated by the US government.
